Bosque del Tolomuco is a bird sanctuary, nature reserve, and lodge on 22 hectares with four kilometers of hiking trails. Their bird list exceeds 240 species.
Johan has worked as a guide for seven years and has a degree and license as a naturalist guide. He is the creator and organizer of the Christmas Bird Count at Carara National Park with the Audubon National Society. In 2007, he reported for the first time in Costa Rica, the discovery of Pacific golden plover. He is a co-founder of the Costa Rican Ornithologists Union, where he actively participates in the various bird conservation programs and is currently studying for a career in Management and Protection of Natural Resources.
