Get close to nature and enjoy your journey in comfort at some of Namibia's breathtaking landscapes. Coupled with fine accommodation, Blue Crane Safaris' safari camping tours can be scheduled, private, tailor-made, or self-drive. Stay in hand-picked Namibian lodges and guesthouses as you traverse and discover Namibia's interesting wildlife and camping.
On this safari, you will be provided four nights of accommodation. On the first and second nights, you will stay at the Sesriem Camp, and on the third and fourth nights, you will stay at Amanpuri Guesthouse or a similar accommodation.
Collection time is between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. from anywhere within Windhoek. Windhoek is surrounded by mountains and you will have to pass both the Eros Mountains and the Khomas Hochland Range. As you come through the mountains, you will drop down from the central plateau to grassy desert savannah.
You will stop at Solitaire for petrol, and perhaps also for afternoon tea before you continue to your first night at Sesriem. Arrival at the camping site will be during the early afternoon. You will make a short excursion to the nearby sand dunes (Elim dunes) to enjoy the sunset over the dunes and watch the colors glow and change on the mountains before going back for dinner. Lunch and dinner is included in this day.
Day 2: Sossusvlei to Sesriem Camp
You will have an early start to catch the soft light of the sunrise over the desert. After passing through Sesriem, you will continue towards Sossusvlei along distant sand dunes on both sides of the road. You will stop at the famous Dune 45. Those who feel fit may climb the dune and get a breathtaking view of the surrounding desert and dunes.
After breakfast, you will take a desert walk in the cool of the morning, with chance to see gemsboks, springboks, black-backed jackals and ostriches. You will return back to the camp just in time for lunch. As the day cools off in the afternoon, you will make a short excursion to Sesriem Canyon. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner is included in this day.
Namibia is a country of contrasts. On this day, you will move from desert to sea. On the way, you will cross the Tropic of Capricorn and transverse the Gaub and the Kuiseb passes, driving down to the dry river bed at the bottom of the Kuiseb Canyon before climbing up the other side, watching the spectacular desert landscape unfold before you.
Having arrived at the coast, you will make a stop in Walvis Bay to enjoy the view of flamingoes and other birds in the lagoons and to visit the salt works. Overnight stay will be in a guesthouse. Dinner for the night will be in a local restaurant and is included in the cost of the safari. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner is included in this day.
In the morning, you will make an excursion to the seal colony at Cape Cross north of Swakopmund where you will be able to experience thousands of fur seals at a close range. The rest of the day will be free with plenty of time to explore the town. Swakopmund is a very pleasant seaside town with lots of shops, a good stretch of beach (although the Atlantic is quite cold here), and an open-air curio market.
There is also a very good museum and the Namibian National Marine Aquarium, which is located in Swakopmund. Breakfast is included in this day. Dinner and lunch on this day is not included in the price of the safari and will be on the client’s own expense.
You will return to Windhoek, passing by marble and gold mines and Namibia’s largest craft market in Okahandja, the administrative center of the Herero people. Back in Windhoek, you will be dropped off at your accommodation.
This safari includes the Namib Desert, Naukluft, Sossusvlei, Dune 45, Dead Vlei, Sesriem Canyon, and the Coast Walvisbay and Swakopmund.
You will be provided daily meals as specified in the itinerary. Namibia is a hot country, so drink lots of liquids. Most of the tap water in Namibia is purified and safe to drink. The guide will advise when to drink bottled water. All alcoholic drinks and any other special requirements will be on your own account at all times.
On the fourth day of the safari, there are various optional activities that can be arranged. These include a boat tour with oysters and champagne, scenic flights, and micro-light flights over the desert, fishing trips (either from the beach or in a boat), quad-bike trips into the desert, and over the sand dunes around Swakopmund, sand boarding, skydiving, and many other activities. Your guide will discuss all the possible optional activities with you and offer to make pre-booking in advance. Please note that all extra activities in Swakopmund are subject to availability and are made at the client’s own risk and expense.
