This tour has been designed for those who want to experience some of the pleasures of Namibia´s Atlantic coast after a tour to the desert. The tour is the best of its kind as it allows you to visit Namibia’s best tourist destinations in the space of five days. One of the destinations visited is the Namib Desert the Oldest Desert on the planet with its huge red dunes the place is really worth every effort made to visit. The desert offers one of the highest dunes on earth with breathtaking views from the top. Swakopmund on the other side boasts being Namibia’s prime tourist destination the coastal town of Swakopmund, with its authentic palm-lined streets, seaside walkways, a lovely summer climate is perfectly a sand and sea destination not forgetting the perfect decent beaches it offers.

Accommodation

You will stay at Namib Desert Lodge or similar on day one and two and at Hotel Zum Kaiser on day three and four.

Program

Day 1: Windhoek - Sesriem (350 kilometers)

Collection time is between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m. from anywhere within Windhoek. Windhoek is surrounded by mountains and you have to pass both the Eros Mountains and the Khomas Hochland Range. As you come through the mountains, you drop down from the central plateau to grassy desert savannah. You will stop at Solitaire for petrol and perhaps also afternoon tea before you continue to your first night at our lodge. You aim to arrive at your lodge during the early afternoon.

Day 2: Sesriem and Sossusvlei

You will start early today to catch the soft light of the sunrise over the desert. After passing through Sesriem, you continue towards Sossusvlei along distant sand dunes on both sides of the road. You will stop at the famous Dune 45. Those who feel fit may climb the dune and get a breathtaking view of the surrounding desert and dunes. After breakfast, you will take a desert walk in the cool of the morning, with a chance to see gemsboks, springboks, black-backed jackals, and ostriches. As the day cools off in the afternoon, you will make a short excursion to Sesriem Canyon. You will be at Sesriem in time for lunch. After Sesriem canyon excursion, you will head back to the lodge.

Day 3: Namib Desert (350 kilometers)

Namibia is a country of contrasts. Today, you will move from desert to sea. On your way, you will cross the Tropic of Capricorn and transverse the Gaub and the Kuiseb passes, driving down to the dry river bed at the bottom of the Kuiseb Canyon before climbing up the other side, watching the spectacular desert landscape unfold before you. Having arrived at the coast, you will make a stop in Walvis Bay to enjoy the view of flamingoes and other birds in the lagoons and to visit the salt works. You will overnight in a guesthouse in Swakopmund. Dinner for tonight is at a local restaurant and is included in the tour.

Day 4: Swakopmund

In the morning, you will make an excursion to the seal colony at Cape Cross north of Swakopmund, where you will be able to experience thousands of fur seals at close range. The rest of the day will be free with plenty of time to explore the town. Swakopmund is a very pleasant seaside town with lots of shops, a good stretch of beach (although the Atlantic is quite cold here) and an open-air curio market. There is also a very good museum and the Namibian National Marine Aquarium is located in Swakopmund. Dinner today is not included in the price of the safari and will be at the client’s own expense.

Day 5: Swakopmund - Windhoek (350 kilometers)

Today, you will return to Windhoek, passing by marble and gold mines and Namibia’s largest craft market in Okahandja, the administrative center of the Herero people. Back in Windhoek, you will be dropped off at your accommodation.

Location

This safari will cover several places in Namibia, including Sesriem, Sossusvlei, Namib Desert, and Swakopmund.

Food

Namibia is a hot country, so drink lots of liquids. Most of the tap water in Namibia is purified and safe to drink. The guide will advise when to drink bottled water. All alcoholic drinks and any other special requirements on your own account at all times.

Things to do (optional)

There are various optional activities that can be arranged in Swakopmund. These include a boat-tour (with oysters and champagne), scenic flights and micro-light flights over the desert, fishing trips (either from the beach or in a boat), quad-bike trips into the desert and over the sand dunes around Swakopmund, sand boarding, skydiving, and many other activities. Your guide will discuss all the possible optional activities with you and offer to make pre-booking in advance. All extra activities in Swakopmund are subject to availability and are made at the client’s own risk and expense.
