Voi Safari Lodge

Perched on the top of a cliff-faced hill, Voi Safari Lodge is uniquely designed to be a hinge-like structure overlooking Kenya's Tsavo East plains extending as far as the undulating terrain of the Yatta Plateaus.

This vantage positioning of the lodge has made it a stopover for many safari adventures, nature lovers, and holidaymakers who are assured of sampling Kenya's wildlife attractions that continuously beat a track to the three water holes sunk by the ledge below the cliff.

The lodge is also popular with travelers who pass along the Mombasa - Nairobi highway. It is located 165 kilometers from Mombasa and has the advantage of being within a park that is served with good infrastructure, including communication facilities.

Voi Safari Lodge has 52 ensuite standard rooms with three stories and stands in proud contrast to its rocky surroundings. The swimming pool has a view of wildlife at the waterholes and the plains beyond. The unique dug-up rock swimming pool has crystal clear water that invites a refreshing dip after a dusty day on Kenyan safari.

Voi Safari Lodge also has a restaurant serving good food on a buffet basis and a well-stocked bar with smashing views. The surroundings of the lodge are dotted by wild and planted flora that stand out beautifully and liven up the rocky terrain.

Ngulia Safari Lodge

Ngulia Safari Lodge, built in 1969, is located in Tsavo West National Park, which is home to a big host of wild animals. It can be accessed from Nairobi (260 kilometers away), through Mtito Andei Gate, or from Mombasa (250 kilometers away) through Tsavo River Gate.

The lodge is perched on the Ndawe Escarpment just below Ngulia Hills, overlooking the rhino sanctuary surrounded by scenic hills.

Ngulia Safari Lodge no doubt has one of the most breathtaking views in Kenya. It has 52 standard rooms, all equipped with a bath and shower, as well as a balcony with a view of the vast wilderness and floodlit waterholes.

It has two restaurants. The main restaurant, built in an open-air style, has a view of floodlit waterholes and the leopard dining tree. There is also the leopard view bar open in the evenings before the arrival of the leopards from the wilderness.

Guests can enjoy their meals as they watch the leopards feast, the other animals drink water and make love, and the birds compete in their melodies.

The park is noted for its vast elephant herds and a variety of games including black rhinos, long-necked gerenuk, zebra, waterbuck, and crocodiles.

The game drive starts immediately upon entry and explores the park in the whole morning hours before you proceed for lunch in Voi Safari Lodge. Then, return to the Voi Safari Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Tsavo East - Tsavo West

Have an early morning breakfast game drive en route as you exit Tsavo East National Park. Proceed to Tsavo West, arrive for lunch at Ngulia Safari Lodge, and after the meal, proceed for the afternoon game drive in the park, which will take until 18:30.

What to be seen there are herds of elephant, buffalo, ostrich, gazelle, impala, giraffe, zebra, and the predators as well as cats. You will also have an opportunity to visit the Rhino Sanctuary before you drive back for dinner and stay overnight at the Ngulia Safari Lodge.

Day 3: Tsavo West - Mombasa

Return to the lodge for a full breakfast and then head for Mombasa, with a visit to Mzima Springs, which has an underground viewing platform to observe crocodiles, hippos, and the various fish underwater.

You'll have lunch at a budget hotel along the way as you head back to Mombasa or with a drop-off at your hotel or the airport.

Location

This safari will take you from Mombasa to Tsavo East and West National Parks in Kenya. Some of the attractions include the Yatta Plateau, Lugard Falls, Lake Jipe, and Mzima Springs. Wildlife to be seen include the black rhino, Cape buffalo, elephant, leopard, hippo, Masai lion, bush baby, hartebeest, lesser kudu, and Maasai giraffe.

The Tsavo is commonly known as the wild man-eater lions, which were responsible for the deaths of a number of construction workers on the Kenya-Uganda Railway between March and December 1898 (precolonial era).

Kenya

Covering a considerable chunk of East Africa, Kenya is neatly girthed across the middle by the equator and bisected by the southerly course of the jagged Rift Valley. The country has varied altitudes, featuring lofty mountains and escarpments, open plains and stony deserts, fertile rolling hills and forested valleys, and beautiful 480 kilometers of tropical coastline.

This wealth of natural habitat is protected in over 50 national parks and reserves, and many more private conservancies. Together, this covers about 10% of 580,400 square kilometers of the country. With the expectation of the big apes, Kenya is home to a full complement of East African animals and is also one of the best places on the continent for bird watching.

The long sunny days and the azure Indian Ocean with colorful marine life ensure the perfect environment for a laidback holiday on the coast. Kenya's character has been shaped by its long history, from the emergence of mankind some six million years ago to the colonial days of hunters, settlers, and adventures.

Its rich ethnic heritage is evident from the traditionally dressed Masai and Samburu people tending their livestock, while a long Swahili tradition has left its mark in the architecture, Islamic way of life on the coast, and in the Swahili language.
