Embark on this amazing safari to the heart of Kenya and enjoy game drives through fantastic sceneries. Marvel at Amboseli National Park’s enormous elephant population, see massive flocks of flamingos at Lake Nakuru, and visit an authentic Maasai Mara village with a local guide. This is an adventure you should not miss!
Accommodations during your safari will be rustic and typical of the region. Camping will be in mobile tents, and the lodge accommodations will be a mixture of mid-range traditional lodges and tented lodges.
Depending on your package, you will spend the first two nights of your safari at either Kimana Camp or Sentrim Tented Lodge. On your third night, you will stay at Citymax Hotel or Nakuru Sopa Lodge. Finally, on your last two nights, you will stay at Chui Camp or Mara Sopa Lodge.
Please note that safari tents do not have mosquito nets. Sleeping bags can be hired for 10 USD per day.
Travel from Nairobi to Amboseli on day one to enjoy a full day of game drives on day two. On day three, reach Lake Nakuru, where you will enjoy a game drive with views of the national park's famous pink flamingos. Travel to Masai Mara on day four and enjoy a full-day game drive on day five.
Eat a picnic lunch at the Mara River in the company of crocodiles and hippos. In the evening, you will visit a local Maasai village to learn about the local people and their culture, with traditional dancing, storytelling by the chief, and a nature walk with a local guide. Return to Nairobi on day six, arriving in the afternoon.
You will be picked up from your Nairobi accommodation at 8:30 a.m. to drive past the scenic Athi Plains and into the bushy country of Amboseli National Park. Arrive in time at your camp or lodge for lunch and thereafter go for an evening game drive. Amboseli National Park is a landscape dominated everywhere by the glistening, majestic snowcap of the mighty Mount Kilimanjaro, a fitting backdrop to the wild region.
It is also the region where pastoral Masai and their cattle have lived in harmony with wild creatures for many a century. After lunch, experience an afternoon game drive at the foot of Africa's highest mountain. Dinner and overnight will be at Kimana Camp or Sentrim Tented Lodge located in the very heart of the Amboseli National Park.
Today, you have two options. First, after breakfast, proceed for a morning game drive and wildlife viewing in the park and return back to the camp or lodge around midday for your sumptuous lunch. Relax after lunch while waiting for your evening game drive at 4:00 p.m. when the weather cools down and the wildlife is active.
Amboseli is famous for its big game, including elephants, lions, herds of buffaloes, zebra, and wildebeest and its great scenic beauty. The landscape is dominated by Mount Kilimanjaro (the highest peak in Africa) and "floating" elephants within the swamps whose permanent waters zip down from the mountain. Later in the evening, return back to your camp or lodge for dinner and overnight.
For your second option, after breakfast, depart the camp or lodge with a packed lunch for a full-day game drive. Stop to enjoy your picnic lunch at the observation hill, which on a clear day affords you with views of Kilimanjaro in the distance. Continue with game viewing after lunch and return to the camp or lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.
You will depart after an early breakfast by road for the ornithological paradise of Lake Nakuru National Park which supports a wide ecological diversity of flamingos and other water birds. Over 450 bird species have been recorded there. Arrive at around 12:30 p.m. and begin a game drive en route to your accommodation for check-in and lunch. Get settled in and relax until 4:00 p.m. where you will head on for another game drive and nature walk along the lake shores and return back to your accommodation before sunset.
Lake Nakuru is a shallow alkaline lake famous for its flamingo population estimated to be more than a million. Hence, it is referred to as the "birds' paradise" by bird watchers. Spot elusive wild animals like tree-climbing lions, white and black rhinos which are endangered species in Kenya, the rare Rothschild giraffe, cape buffaloes, waterbucks, gazelles, leopards, and primates throughout the park.
After breakfast, depart for a journey south along the floor of the dramatic Great Rift Valley to Masai Mara National Reserve, an extension of Tanzania's Serengeti National Park also known as the seventh wonder of the world because of the great wildebeest migration, witnessed every year between June and September.
Millions of wildebeest and zebra cross the Mara River from Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya in search of food and water, and it is famous for its wide variety of resident wildlife all year round. Stop for lunch at Narok Town and arrive at Masai Mara National Reserve in time for an afternoon game drive where you may have a chance of seeing the "Big Five," different varieties of birdlife, and the best savannah vegetation in the world.
This is a serene vast country of breathtaking vistas, a panorama of vast rolling plains and rounded hills and of intermittent groves of acacia woodlands and dense thickets of scrub. The Mara River and its tributaries are margined by luxuriant riverine forest bisect the landscape. The famous Masai tribesmen live within the dispersal area of the game reserve. And in every direction, there are seemingly endless herds of game animals. Return to the camp or lodge for dinner and overnight.
Today, you will enjoy a full-day game drive to absorb the beauty and splendor of the Mara. In this country of breathtaking vistas, view its vast assemblages of plains game together with their associated predators. The Mara has the largest population of lions to be found in Kenya.
Other animals to be seen there include buffalo, black rhino, hippopotamus, leopard, cheetah, zebra, Coke's hartebeest, white-bearded gnu, oribi, warthog, and Thomson's and Grant's gazelles. The bird life of the Mara is as profuse as its mammalian fauna.
Today, you will have a picnic lunch at the Mara River where you can enjoy your box lunch while watching crocodiles and hippos laze around in their natural habitat. This is a great way to take advantage of your time in the park and enjoy seeing the views below and all around you. After lunch, continue your game drive in search for more wildlife.
You will be dropped off at the Masai village at 5:00 p.m. for an opportunity to visit the Masai people to witness the singing and dancing that are part of their daily lives and sacred rituals. Upon arrival at the village, proceed for a nature walk with the Masai naturalist guide. You will get to see herbs that are used as medication among the Masai.
Return to the village where a camp fire will be lit. Entertainment from both women, children, and men of the village will follow with a chance for you to join in their dancing. The chief will then give you stories of their culture and tradition, and they will show you how the herbs seen during the nature walk are prepared and used. You will also have a glimpse into their homes and social structure. Dinner will be served at the village, followed by coffee and tea as you leave to return to the camp or lodge for overnight.
Tonight you will have the option to choose to sleep in an authentic Masai-style home with beds, located at the campsite (subject to availability).
Take an early-morning game drive into the park and then return to the camp or lodge for a full breakfast. Say goodbye to the Masai Mara Game Reserve as you begin your leisurely return drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the late afternoon. Your trip will come to an end with a drop-off at your accommodation.
Please note: The order of the days may change due to group size and availability of campsites or lodges.
Aside from game viewing, you will have the chance to visit a local Masai village and get to know their way of life.
This safari will take place in various national parks in Kenya, including Amboseli National Park, Lake Nakuru National Park, and Masai Mara Game Reserve.
