Balai Serama Guesthouse is the right address for all activities in Taman Negara. The name comes from a village in Taman Negara, formerly called Kampong Serama. Serama is the name of (ornamental) chicken species. You can find this specific chicken in the logo of the guesthouse. Today this village is called Kampong Padang. Balai Serama Guesthouse is run by the Malaysian / Dutch couple Ijat and Marja. Ijat grew up in Kampong Padang, but also lived in the Netherlands for almost nine years. The big wish of both was to build a guesthouse in this unique place. This wish was fulfilled in 2014.

Balai Serama Guesthouse is situated in Taman Negara, offering a tranquil and comfortable accommodation. Surrounded by lush greenery, it features a restaurant and provides free parking space on site, a common lounge area where guests can relax. Luggage storage, laundry, and fax / photocopying services. The property houses a restaurant serving a tasty spread of local dishes. The restaurant and terrace offer a beautiful view over the river Tembeling. The guesthouse has its own car park. The accommodation offers garden views from the terrace, air-conditioned rooms come with tiled flooring, a desk, seating area, and tea / coffee making facilities. The attached bathroom includes towels and shower facility.

Balai Serama is located in an oasis of peace in Kampong Padang, Taman Negara. It is a small-scale guesthouse with five three-person rooms and four double rooms with a connecting door. The rooms are luxurious. Every room has air conditioning and a private terrace. There is also the possibility to make coffee or tea. The bathroom has a modern sink and toilet and a spacious walk-in shower with cooling and hot water. Balai Serama Guesthouse also has a chalet. A cozy house for up to four people. The cottage has a sitting area with an open kitchen, a bedroom with a double bed and a bunk bed and a bathroom with a walk-in shower. Both rooms are air-conditioned.

Program

Day 1: Taman Negara

On the day of arrival, you will have a night walk with a private guide. You will go into the jungle in the evening to spot as many animals as possible.

Day 2: Canopy Walkway, Bukit Teresik, and Orang Asli Settlement

The next morning after breakfast, the private guide will take you to the Canopy Walkway and Bukit Teresik, and in the afternoon you will visit the Orang Asli Settlement. Canopy Walkway is a 500-meter-long walkway, where you walk through the treetops at a height of 30 meters. So you see the jungle from a completely different point of view. The maximum number of persons is set at 600 per day. In Bukit Teresik, you will walk through the jungle to the top of the mountain, from where you have a beautiful view. A visit to the Orang Asli (original inhabitants) is also quite an experience. The Batek tribe lives in Taman Negara.

Day 3: Lata Berkoh

On the last day, the private guide will take you on a boat trip into the inner jungle up to Lata Berkoh, which is a cascade and a beautiful place to enjoy this natural Jacuzzi. With a boat trip of about 45 minutes on the Tahan River and a short jungle walk of about 700 meters, you will reach the Jacuzzi to refresh yourself. The afternoon and evening are free to spend.

Note

  • This arrangement has the same interpretation as the three days / two nights’ arrangement and as an extra activity a visit to the Orang Asli settlement. See and hear everything about the daily activities of these 'original residents'.
  • The Canopy Walkway is closed on Thursdays. This means that the interpretation for day 2 is different. In the morning, you will have the boat trip to Lata Berkoh and in the afternoon, you will visit the Orang Asli settlement, the original inhabitants.

How to get there

Driving directions from Kuala Lumpur

  • Follow the highway towards Kuantan.
  • Continue to Temerloh and finally Jerantut.
  • Follow the signs to Taman Negara.
  • After about 55 kilometers you will see a sign on the left to Balai Serama Guesthouse.

Note: It is also possible to first drive to Kuala Tembeling and then continue with a long boat. Boats sail once a day and leave around 1 p.m. It is advisable to be present an hour in advance because sometimes it is very busy at the delivery desk for the National Park admission tickets.

Arrival by bus

Departing from Kuala Lumpur, bus and / or boat ticket can be purchased online via Easybook website.
