Join Amazon Eco Tours and Lodge on an amazing Amazonian journey in Peru! This native style wildlife eco-tour will give you the opportunity to encounter the mesmerizing wildlife and to take a glimpse of the life of an ethnic group in the Amazon rainforest. The experienced guides have a vast knowledge of the flora and fauna of the Amazon as well as the peoples, their traditions, their customs, and their rich mythology, which will ensure you a good time and an insightful experience. Take this opportunity and make a lasting memory with Amazon Eco Tours and Lodge!
Amazon Eco Tours and Lodge has been built on high terrain (it never flows). The native-style built lodge (wooden structure and palm leaves roof) rooms are doubles but there are also triple and even quad rooms. All of them have private bathrooms with shower. Rooms and public areas are screen-protected against insect and intruding wildlife.
Transfer to the river wharf from where the trip begins. Sail on the Amazon, the world’s greatest river, onboard comfortable and safe boats. During the trip, you will be able to see a marvelous panorama in which the magnificence of the Amazon makes its way through the exuberance of the jungle, where picturesque villages with their particular color and joy appear on the shores of the river. On the way, you will make a stop to look for dolphins where Nanay river flows into the Amazon River.
Afterward, continue navigating to the eco-lodge and arrive at the Amazon Eco Tours & Lodge (35 kilometers northeast from Iquitos). The native-style built lodge is surrounded by trees, plants, and flowers, a true tropical garden where birds and butterflies are abundant. While your expert naturalist guide explains about the lodge facilities and the activities to come, wait for room assignment according to the reservation.
On this day, you will enjoy the sunset on the Amazon (depends on the weather). After dinner, you will also go on a night jungle walk looking for tarantulas, reptiles, amphibious animals, etc.
Today, enjoy an early morning bird watching. Morning early hours (between five and six) is the most appropriate time to observe many of the bird species that feed on the river banks or in the local produce plantations nearby. Your guide will advise you regarding exact time of this activity.
After breakfast, you will proceed with an etnobotanic walk on a trail where you will be able to identify some species of the plant kingdom (cat’s claw, sour cane, Copaiba, aguaje, and even ayahuasca, the hallucinogen vine). Besides, you will be able to observe species of fauna from this Amazon jungle.
Take your lunch and then visit the trapiche, an artisanal sugar cane squeezer, where you will prove the cane juice and see how local people get the derivatives and how it is produced locally. After dinner, you will be listening to the tales and legends from the rich Amazon myths told by the guides after dinner.
Take your breakfast and then continue to visit a native family called Yaguas. The Yaguas are one of the most ancient ethnic groups of the Amazon rainforest, discovered by Francisco de Orellana on his first Amazon River exploration. Visiting these friendly people will let you know their customs, see their unique apparel made of palm fibers and even try their “pucuna” or blowgun.
After lunch, enjoy a visit to a rescue center, the sanctuary of Amazonian animals where you will be able to see the famous anaconda, boa constrictor, matamata prehistoric turtle, alligators, some species of monkeys such as the spider monkey, the wooly monkey, capuchin monkey, some species of sloth, and species of exotic birds such as toucan, macaws, etc.
On the other hand, you will be able to have the chance to appreciate some varieties of medicinal plants already made in the local mode (cat`s claw, chuchuhuasi bark, oje sap, dragon`s blood, etc.) all these with great medicinal properties, and making a cheer with some of the exotic drinks to close the visit in there. Then, return to the lodge for dinner.
Take your breakfast and then visit a typical village on the shores of the Amazon, see the homes, schools, churches, shops and interact with its people. After lunch, you will sail down the Amazon to reach the town Barrio Florido, a small coastal community located on the banks of the Amazon River. From this point, you will take a short walk of five minutes to reach the ranch and Pedrito, where you will see alligators, aquatic plants Victoria regia, and the largest freshwater fish (paiche). Afterward, enjoy a nice day navigating on the Amazon while you return back to Iquitos city. Arrive at Iquitos and transfer to your hotel.
The tour starts at 09:30 am on the first day and you return after lunch on the last day.
During the tour, you will get 10 meals that include three breakfasts, four lunches, and three dinners. Purified water and hot water for tea, coffee, and milk are also available. When you arrive, you will be welcomed in the main house or Maloca where the restaurant is, and you will be able to enjoy the regional dishes. Besides, it also counts with its bar that can provide some exotic drinks, local beer, regular soda, etc.
Amazon Eco Tours & Lodge offers menus in which meals from the region have been incorporated. The meals are made with fish filet, golden fish, or maid; chicken, beef, or vegetarian diet. Showing the Amazonian culinary art, they have their heart of palm salad (chonta), a cocona sauce, a delicious golden stew or grilled maid, fish wrapped in foil (patarashca) with white rice, beans, plantains or sancochados, and fresh fruits for desserts.
