Accommodation

Your first to fourth night in this tour will be at Samiria Ecolodge while your fifth night will be at a camp inside Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve.

Program

Day 1: Arrival at Nauta and visit to Sapi Sapi Lagoon

  • Pick up from the hotel or airport
  • Transfer to the Port of Nauta in private mobility with air conditioning (one and a half hours)
  • Arrival to the Port of Nauta
  • Visit the Sapi Sapi Lagoon (mirror of water) to observe the largest freshwater fish in the world: the Paiche. Also the dragon fish, turtles, and more.
  • Transfer to the ecolodge where you will be greeted with a welcome cocktail
  • Lunch at the ecolodge and rest
  • Visit to the community of Coastal Artisans who will teach a great part of their culture, customs, and the elaboration of their crafts (they can be bought if you wish).
  • Botanical walk and teaching of various medicinal and fruit plants
  • Return and dinner at the ecolodge
  • Conversation about myths, legends, listening to the experiences and magical stories of the jungle told by your guide
  • Night excursion through the forest to see nocturnal mammals and listen to the sound of the jungle, as well as go in search of tarantulas and alligators.

Day 2: Birdwatching and hiking

  • Bird watching inside the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve
  • Return to the ecolodge and breakfast
  • Hike to the Sapira Gorge for monkey observation
  • Lunch and rest
  • Visit to the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve
  • Observation of gray and pink dolphins
  • Return and dinner at the ecolodge

Day 3: Dolphin watching and canoeing

  • Breakfast at the ecolodge
  • Excursion to appreciate the gray and pink dolphins and swim with them.
  • Return to the ecolodge for lunch and rest
  • Canoeing in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve - Huayari Lagoon
  • Walk on the shore of Laguna Huayari to appreciate the prehistoric birds of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve such as the shansho, the camungo, the tuki tuki, among others.
  • Return and dinner at the ecolodge

Day 4: River and botanical excursions

  • Breakfast at the ecolodge
  • Morning excursion through the Yanayacu - Pucate River to the Chingana Lagoon, where the Surveillance Post 2 (PV2) is located. In this lagoon, it will be possible to spot gray and pink dolphins, taricayas - as river turtles are known locally and probably river wolves. Also, you can watch birds and fish. Among the fish species that abound in the reserve are the piranha, the tarpon, the sardine, and more.
  • Cold lunch on board on the shores of Laguna Chingana, contemplating the splendid landscape.
  • In the afternoon, a botanical excursion in the Chambirillo area in search of medicinal plants and trees, making reference to the basic techniques of survival in the jungle.
  • Return and dinner at the ecolodge

Day 5: Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve

  • Breakfast at the ecolodge
  • Transfer to the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve - Laguna de Sarapanga area for camping
  • Search of the camping area and armed of the tents of campaign in the zone
  • Construction of hunting and refuge traps made with local materials
  • Cold lunch in the forest
  • Walk in forest in search of animals and medicinal plants
  • Nocturnal animals sighting
  • Return to the camp for dinner and overnight in tent

Day 6: Visit to Las Palmas Native Community and departure

  • Breakfast at the ecolodge
  • Visit to Las Palmas Native Community where the uses and customs of the activities carried out by the population will be made known. Demonstrations with bow, arrow, and blowgun (cucuna). This community belongs to the Kukama Kukamiria People.
  • Transfer to the Shiriyacu Area to observe the Victoria Regia Aquatic Plant (the largest aquatic plant).
  • Return to the ecolodge and lunch
  • Return to Nauta and hotel in Iquitos
  • End of the program
