Greystoke Mahale sits on a pristine and white sandy beach overlooking the turquoise water of Lake Tanganyika with the forested slopes of the Mahale Mountains rising behind. Your days can start there, eating breakfast whilst waiting to hear news of the chimps and deciding what to do with your day. Evenings end with sundowners on the rocks of the headland, where drinks are served around the lamp-lit bar whilst the mountains, rising behind the camp, and disappear into the darkness.
With an early departure from your Arusha accommodation, you will be transferred to the Arusha Airport (ARK), for the charter flight to Mahale National Park. Upon arrival at the Mahale airstrip, you will meet with the camp guides and take a one-hour boat trip to the camp. Remote and fabulous! In the afternoon, take a bush walk around the camp to discover your new habitat.
The chimp trackers set off early and radio to camp when they have located the chimpanzees. From there is it our turn to push through the incredible jungle to the desired location. Return to camp for lunch and resting.
The trackers have set off again today. You are allowed one hour to view the chimps on each day. This will be timed and recorded by park rangers who accompany you on the trek. You will return to the camp for a lunch and a short rest. After that, you are able to enjoy a short boat ride and learn some traditional fishing techniques in search of the Yellow Belly!
After a leisurely morning breakfast, you will take a boat transfer back to park headquarters for your charter flight back to Arusha. You will arrive early in the evening.

Mahale Mountains National Park is a sanctuary of the chimpanzee that can be reached by charter flight or by boat from Kigoma. Covering an area of approximately 1,600 square kilometers, the park's western boundary is the shore of Lake Tanganyika. The chimpanzee population is estimated at around 1,000 and they may be observed in their natural habitat in groups of up to 30.
Yellow baboons, red colobus, red-tailed, and vervet monkeys also live in the park and are commonly seen as are bush-babies, bush-pigs, bushbuck, blue duiker, civet, hyrax, and white-tailed mongoose. Buffalo, elephant, giraffe, leopard, lion, porcupine and other various types of antelope are also present but will prove more difficult to find. Lake Tanganyika is also home to more than 250 species of fish.
During the safari, you will be served daily breakfasts, lunches, and dinners that are included in the package.
Massage or other treatments can be booked at the lodge for additional costs.
