Tanzania

Tanzania is a country that is rich in natural wonders, traditions, and cultures. This country is home to a range of diverse landscapes including sweeping plains, tropical rain forests, mountains, lakes, and beautiful beaches. Tanzania is the ideal destination for any type of visitor whether their interest is game viewing on safari, climbing Africa’s highest peak, or relaxing on the exotic beaches of Zanzibar, Tanzania has it all.

An unparalleled one-quarter of Tanzania’s surface area has been set aside for conservation purposes. With areas like Serengeti National Park and the famous Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania is the best safari destination in Africa. Furthermore, Tanzania is one of Africa’s most peaceful and stable countries which makes the country an ideal choice for both first-time visitors and old-timers.

Tarangire National Park

Tarangire is one of Tanzania's largest national parks and sanctuary for an unusually large elephant population. Majestic baobab trees are an interesting feature of the park. Animals concentrate along the Tarangire River which provides the only permanent water supply in the area. There is a great diversity of wildlife including lion, leopard, cheetah and up to six thousand elephants.

Often overshadowed by Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire National Park has immense concentrations of game in the peak months (July - February) and a fraction of the visitors that go to any of the other northern parks. The game viewing is superb and the atmosphere, as well as habitat, is completely different from the other parks. In addition, this park is surprisingly large, giving visitors more space and a more intimate game viewing environment of all the parks in the region.

Lake Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara National Park is a beautiful, scenic park on the road from Arusha to Ngorongoro Crater. The lake itself takes up much of the park leaving a strip of land running down its shores where game concentrates. Bringing famous for its flamingos, breathtaking scenery and the soda-ash lake in the center makes Lake Manyara National Park reason enough to visit here for a day, especially in the wet months (March - June) where the elephants are enjoying the lush surroundings. Lake Manyara National Park is described as one of the hidden gems of Tanzania. This park is also famous for its tree climbing lions and large herds of elephant which are not shy to come straight up to the vehicle.

Lake Eyasi

Lake Eyasi is home to the hunter-gathers ethnic group of the Hadzabe Bushmen. They bear similar characteristics to those of Bushmen at Southern Africa. This indigenous tribe are probably the last living in true harmony with nature and are well-known for their communication via clicking rather than speech.

Ngorongoro Crater

Ngorongoro Crater is unique in that almost all the wildlife lives within the crater walls. Hence, you have the opportunity to find the game easily. Rhino, in particular, can be seen regularly as well as prides of lion and other predators like cheetahs.Ngorongoro Crater is the best place in Tanzania to see the “Big Five” due to the shape and size of this incredible natural landscape. This crater is the world’s largest inactive volcano caldera and its beauty is awe-inspiring.

A healthy population of black rhino and some of the largest tusker elephants left in Africa today are highlights. Moreover, Ngorongoro Crater becomes home to strong populations of lions, leopards, and hyenas along with good herds of non-migrating wildebeests, buffalos, and zebras. Other games at Ngorongoro Crater include serval cats, cheetahs, jackals, Grant's and Thompson's gazelles, flamingos, and bat-eared foxes along with approximately 400 species of birds.

Serengeti National Park

Serengeti is Tanzania's most popular national park - a world heritage site and one of the 7 Natural Wonders of Africa. The Serengeti is famed for its annual migration when hundreds of thousands of zebra and Thomson’s gazelle join more than 1 million wildebeest on their trek for fresh grazing. Yet, even when the migration is quiet, Serengeti National Park offers arguably the most scintillating game-viewing in Africa teeming with wildlife including great herds of buffalo, groups of elephant and giraffe, and thousands of eland, topi, kongoni, impala, and Grant’s gazelle as well as a vast population of birds.

The spectacle of predator versus prey dominates Tanzania’s greatest park boasting the largest lion population in Africa. Lion pride feasts on the abundance of plain grazers while solitary leopards haunt the acacia trees lining Seronera River and a high density of cheetahs prowl the South Eastern plains. This place is home to millions of wildebeest during the migration and over the huge flat plains. Furthermore, you are likely to find lions, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas, and many other small predators.

Zanzibar

Zanzibar is the ultimate beach experience with its fascinating historic Stone Town, interesting cultures, and magnificent beaches. Stone Town is one of the oldest living Swahili towns in East Africa. Its unique winding, narrow streets are adorned with beautiful buildings and intricately carved wooden doors which are famous in the area.

Established by Arab slave and spice traders in the early 19th century, Stone Town is the cultural heart of Zanzibar. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site which has enabled some of the beautiful houses to get a much-needed renovation. If traveling out to the beaches, you will enjoy relaxing on the pristine white sand looking out over the clear blue Indian Ocean. There is a wide range of activities for adventurous traveler including water sports, sunset cruises, snorkeling, or diving tours.

During this safari, you will be provided with daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Meals are extremely good quality, using fresh and local produce. African Scenic Safaris caters for any meal requirement such as western style food. However, you can advise if you would like to try some local dishes. Breakfasts are likely to be toast, eggs, sausage, pancakes, and fruit.

Lunch is freshly made lunch boxes in which you will eat en-route or a cooked lunch if at the campsite. Dinner normally starts with soup followed by a main course like chicken and rice, fish, pasta, vegetarian stew, etc. followed by fruit for dessert. African Scenic Safaris is commonly asked for recipes after safari which they can happily provide.

"African Scenic Safaris is small and local. They should be your choice for a safari. Amanda was beyond responsive to our questions, quickly, and thoroughly answering all our questions. She also helped us plan a superb northern circuit trip. Our guide / driver, Tom, was incredible. Thoroughly an expert at the parks and more importantly in animal behavior, Tom could uncannily predict animal movements and behavior along with providing us the reasons. He made our trip into something incredible. Our review echoes many others out there if you are overwhelmed by choices and there are many options for you to go with African Scenic. Their operation is one that you can trust to build the trip you want and then you can watch it exceed your expectations."

"African Scenic Safaris is the best. From the first moment I arrived in Tanzania, I knew I had made the right choice. Amanda and Simbo organized a perfect climb up Kilimanjaro and safari. The porters were all very friendly, happy, and eager to get us to the top of Kilimanjaro. Our guides were friendly, knowledgeable, and patient. It is clear that everyone is very well-treated by African Scenic Safaris. It is shown in their attitude and eagerness. Moreover, all proceeds go towards supporting a local orphanage. Book with them and you won't regret it!"
