In this hiking safari, you will be staying at different camps site. Below is the list of camps that you will be staying throughout your safari adventure:

African Mosaic Tours Tanzania Safaris Itinerary

For this hiking trip, you are advised to bring sleeping bags, hiking boots, waterproof jackets and pants (trousers), hand gloves, warm clothing, at least five t-shirts, extra sports shoes or sandals, warm fleece, hat, thermal suit, getter, and hiking stick. You can hire sleeping bags at Ksh for 5 USD per day. You can also hire hiking boots, waterproof jackets and pants, hand gloves, and warm clothing at 2 USD per day at Ksh.

Day 1: Arusha to Machame Gate to Machame Camp

After breakfast, you will leave the lodge or hotel and drive for one hour to Machame gate. Here you will finish the formalities with each other and start the hike through the rain forest to Machame camp located at 3000 meters that you will reach in about six hours. All meals and overnight sleep will be at Machame camp.

Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp

After breakfast, the hike will begin through the forest, crosstie valley along the steep bridge going into the rock ridges and through the heather. The route turns west into a river gorge, reaching Shire camp situated at 3800 meters above sea level. You will reach the camp in about six hours. All meals and overnight will be at the camp.

Day 3: Shira Camp to Baranco Camp

After breakfast, you will continue east with the hiking towards Kibo passing the junction. Then you will go east towards the Lava Tower. Shortly after this, you will climb down to Baranco camp situated at 3940 meters above sea level in four to five hours’ time. All meals and overnight will be at Baranco.

Day 4: Baranco Camp to Barafu Camp

After breakfast, you will continue with the hiking through a steep rocky Baranco walls then ups and down until you come to Karanga valley and then to Barafu camp at 4600 meters above sea levels in about six to seven hours. All meals and overnight sleep will be at the camp.

Day 5: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak and Mweka Camp

You will have very early breakfast, then start for the summit at 01:00 in the morning. First, to Stella point and then to Uhuru peak at 5895 meters above sea level. It is recommended to take few minutes for a photo, and then descend to Mweka camp for dinner and overnight sleep.

Day 6: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate and Moshi and Arusha

You will have breakfast and then descend down towards the Mweka gate that will take for about three to four hours. Collect your diploma if you make to the summit and then transfer back to Arusha in two hours or Moshi in 30 minutes.

Location

Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and one of the largest extinct volcanoes. It can be climbed any time of the year but the best time to climb the mountain is from July to February. April and May are not a good time for climbing due to rainy seasons. The mountain itself is 5895 meters high and is made up of three different volcanic peaks: Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira. The route becomes so popular because of its breathtaking scenery.
