Take this mobile and boat cruise safari through Botswana and learn about the wildlife in its own ambience. Join your hosts African Jacana Safari Tours and visit Botswana's amazing game parks such as Chobe National Park, Moremi Game Reserve, and the Victoria Falls, one of the greatest attractions in Africa. Take a bush walk or relax in the camp site and admire leopards, honey badgers, lions, cheetahs, elusive brown hyenas, gemsbok, zebras, and giraffes and learn about nature.
During this safari, you will be staying in a room at the Thebe River Safaris lodge upon arrival to Maun and the next days, you will stay in campsites prepared by African Jacana Safari Tours.
The lodge and camp overlook the placid Chobe River and echo the surrounding bush with a rustic design. Located 12 kilometers from the Kazungula border and 5 kilometers from the Chobe National Park entrance, the camp offers spacious camping areas shaded cooking braai areas.
Ablutions are shared and there are two large communal ablution blocks with showers with loads of piping hot water, basins, mirrors, and toilets. After dinner, you will have a discussion about the next day's itinerary, what to expect, and what to bring on board.
Your first and second overnight stay will be at Maun in the lodge with bed and breakfast basis. On the third day and fourth, you will camp near Savuti. Meanwhile, your fifth and sixth nights’ accommodation will be in a campsite near the Khwai River.
For the seventh day, you will be in the Xakanaxa Camp. During this safari, you will be accommodated in camping tents with mosquito nets.
All bedding is supplied and includes a bedroll, a mattress, a duvet, blankets, pillows, towels, and paraffin lamp. You will spend the next three days at a lodge in Maun where you will have access to internet and swimming pools.
Your professional guide will meet you upon arrival at the Kasane Airport (BBK). You will then have an option of shopping in town or change your currency before you head to the lodge where you will be accommodated. Lunch and dinner will be prepared depending on the time of arrival.
After your morning breakfast, you will depart to the Victoria Falls. One of the greatest attractions in Africa and one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the world, the Victoria Falls are located on the Zambezi River, the fourth largest river in Africa, which is also defining the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe.
On arrival at the boarder gate, you will have to process your visas and then head to the falls. The noise of Victoria Falls can be heard from a distance of 40 kilometers, while the spray and mist from the falling water is rising to a height of over 400 meters and can be seen from a distance of 50 kilometers.
While you are at the falls, you will have an option of visiting the Devil's Pool. This is one of the most interesting entertainments in Victoria Falls, a natural pool mostly unknown to the majority of tourists.
The pool's width has approximately 10 meters and it is located next to the cliff found near Livingstone Island. It is separated from the abyss only by a narrow bridge. No wonder that this place is called the Devil’s Pool.
Furthermore, there is an optional task you can enjoy such as river cruises, elephant rides, admire rich local arts, and crafts. The meals for the day will be arranged. You will head back to the Thebe River Safaris.
After your early morning breakfast, you will drive to Savuti. The Savuti is a region within the heart of the Chobe National Park. It is the remote home ground of Camp Savuti, positioned on the banks of the Savuti Channel and close to the famous Savuti Marsh.
Because of the long distance, you will have your packed lunch, water, drinks, and snacks with you. The trip is about five to six hours long. As you will be driving, you will see animals on the way like elephants, giraffes, buffalos, and a variety of bird spices.
Your camp will be set up by the time you arrive, so hot showers will be ready waiting for you before you enjoy dinner.
You will wake up early in the morning for a drive in the Savuti area. The Savuti is one of the best regions in Africa to see the rare and endangered African wild dog. These canines live and hunt in packs and collectively, they are some of the most efficient hunters out there.
Lions are abundant in the Savuti. Other frequently seen predators are hyena, cheetah, and leopard. The Savuti boasts a population of elephants. One of Savuti's biggest claims to fame is the presence of an annual zebra migration between the Linyanti and the Savuti.
You will carry a packed lunch and snacks so you can enjoy lunch in the bush before returning to camp in the evening for a shower and dinner. You will spend the night around the fire place while discussing the itinerary for the following day.
The departure time from Savuti will be at 05:30 after your morning breakfast. You will pack your luggage in the trailer and a packed lunch will be prepared by the chef as you head to Khwai.
The Khwai Concession is a 1,800 kilometers area which is situated in the north eastern Okavango next to the Moremi Game Reserve. It was formed by the local Khwai villagers and is managed by the Khwai Development Trust.
The area used to be a hunting concession, but is now actively managed as a conservation area. Upon arrival, you will have some quality time to relax before enjoying an introductory game drive in Khwai.
You will wake up well in time and enjoy your breakfast. The chef will be left in the camping site to prepare your meals and tents. You will drive in the Khwai Concession area which is a good area to see the roan and sable antelope which are relatively rare.
You might see kudu, tsessebe, wildebeest, and zebra. Huge herds of migrating elephants enjoy the Mopane woodlands of the interior of the Khwai area. There are fairly stable populations of large predators such as lion, spotted hyena and African wild dogs found there and if you are lucky, you may also spot leopards.
After the game drive, you will drive back to the camping site where you will find your lunch ready. You will enjoy your lunch under the shade of the tent or a tree. You may see bird spices like verreaux's eagle owl, Senegal coucals, and long toed lapwings.
After lunch, you will rest in your tents, later in the evening you will have the option of going for a game drive. Dinner will be prepared as well as hot water for bathing.
Just after breakfast, you will pack your luggages and drive to Xakanaxa Camp. Upon arrival to the camp, you will drive to the boat station where you will have to do a boat cruise for three hours.
You will enjoy a cruise to Gcadikwe Island, chances are that you will see hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of the Delta's resident species which are joined by intra African and Palae arctic migrants, and cuckoos.
From the water, you should expect to see cormorants, kingfishers, warblers, cisticolas, coucals, and rails in the waterside vegetation. Drifting quietly under the overhanging branches of riverine trees to look for Pel's fishing owl and rufousbellied heron.
The open floodplains are the places to spot the slaty egret, waders, storks, and cranes. Sandbars might throw up roosting wildfowl and a flock of African skimmers. After the cruise, you will drive back to the camping site where you will find your lunch ready to be served. You will enjoy your lunch and rest in the camp.
After your morning breakfast, you will collect your luggage and depart to Kazikini. The Kazikini community campsite is on the way to Moremi South Gate and is approximately 62 kilometers from Maun and 26 kilometers from Moremi South Gate.
On arrival, your camp hand prepares the tents while the chef prepares the lunch. You will rest for some hours, and in the late afternoon visit Shandereka Cultural Village. This cultural village is opposite Kaziikini Campsite and it showcases the traditional village life of the Sankuyo community who are Bayei, Banajwa, and Basubiya though the majority of the people fall under the Bayei Tribe.
These people are excellent basket weavers and carvers. The village provides nature walks, traditional dances, demonstrations on the traditional doctor, basket weaving, carving of wooden curios, and the granaries where the grain is stored.
Later you will get back to the campsite and have your dinner around the fire place. After having your dinner, you will do your night drive to explore the Kazikini area. Most of the animals move from the Moremi Game Reserve to this area so doing a night drive will give you an opportunity to see nature in action.
After having your late morning breakfast, you will pack your luggage in the safari vehicle. Your guide and the camp hand will travel to Boro. You will be traveling by mokoro or the traditional boat which will give you time to enjoy the beauty of the nature.
You will see a variety of bird spices and different landscapes. On arrival at Boro boat station, you will get into your safari vehicle and drive to Maun. In Maun, you will spend a night in the lodge followed by dinner. You will have access to internet and swimming pools.
On this day, you do not have much to do in the morning. You will have your late morning breakfast and the option of having your laundry cleaned which is your own responsibility.
You will also have an option of visiting the museum or go to the town to buy post cards and other interesting staff. You will then go back to the lodge where you will have rest, have access to Wi-Fi connection, and a swimming pool.
Later in the afternoon, you will do horse riding around the Thamalakane area until evening where you will get back to the lodge, dinner will be prepared and this will be the last day of the trip. Arrangement for the next day departures will be made depending on the flight times.
During this safari, you will enjoy several excursions that include a visit to Moremi Game Reserve, Chobe National Park, the Victoria Falls and the Zambezi River, the Devil's Pool, the Savuti region, a boat cruise in the Chobe River, the Khwai Concession, the Xakanaxa Camp, the Gcadikwe Island, Kazikini, the Shandereka Cultural Village, Maun, and the Thamalakane area.

During the safari, you will be served three meals per day. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner plus snacks and fruits. All meals are prepared by a chef and served in a dining tent.
All drinks are also included, however, please note that the selection of drinks is local and limited and excludes spirits. The mineral water is supplied with two liters per person per day. Any special diet requirements will be considered.
Day trips and over nights for boat cruises can be arranged by African Jacana at Xakanaxa camp, the third bridge, and Mboma. Depending on the level of the water in the delta, there are chances that animals such as hippos, elephants, and crocodiles can be seen during the boat cruise. Birds also add a fantastic overview.
African Jacana Safaris arrange mokoro day trips and overnights at the Boro Boat Station which is located on the edges of the delta. African Jacana Safaris collaborates with the Okavango Kopano Community Trust to operate mokoro trips.
The community is in charge of the use of the land as well as its resources. All bookings are through the trust office who provides the entry ticket to the boat station to conduct the mokoro trip. The trips range from a day trip to maximum of 12 days both private and in groups.
