Very professionally led by Katie, this small and exclusive private camp offers a unique experience for horse and safari-lovers . Beautifull setup on one of Okawankows little islands, with a charming mess-tent, meals in different settings, dedicated and enthusiastic staff, great other guests, when we were there. Very comfortable tents with all you can reasonably ask for in the midst of the Delta, 49 very good horses with temperaments for every taste well looked after Mod and his team. Sufficient riding experience needed.
Very experienced guides like Sekongo, Scorpion and Thabo lead you to see zebras, elephants, giraffes, hippos, all kind of antelopes, birds etc. . Very considerate, when it comes to predators, always on the safe side! A truly unique experience- you don't get closer to the animals in their habitat. Couldn't have been better!! Thanks to everyone!

This truly was a trip of a lifetime shared with my adult daughter. From arrival on the airstrip to the departure was a fantastic experience.
The company does advise that riders should be competent and in fact if somebody was not able it would have spoiled the experience as we had a number of exhilarating fast canters through water and bush. (The company can split you into different groups of ability). These tended to be during the quieter times when there was less game around. However there was plenty of game to be seen from horseback, boat and jeep.( The lions were viewed at very close proximity from a jeep on a very hot day when they were not inclined to be on the move.) Apart from the lion we saw lots of elephant, giraffe, hippo, birds, zebra, buffalo, baboons...As explained in previous posts we usually rode one horse on the shorter evening ride and if all was well, we rode the same horse for the longer ride the next day. Almost without fail we rode for 51/2 hours each day so you do need to be riding "fit". I went armed with lots of painkillers but didn't need them! The horses were a slight mixed bag but everyone seemed to find horses they liked ( I loved Guinness) and if you weren't happy they would make every effort to find you a horse you liked. The tents were lovely with all amenities (flushing loo, wash hand basin and shower), great views and were a little distance from one another. The food was of the very good home made variety...delicious really without being pretentious.Apart from the wonderful wildlife and fantastic riding, what made it really unforgettable was the ambience and sense of camaraderie between guests and staff who did everything possible to make your experience a great one.

This was my first African Safari but I would find it hard to imagine how Macatoo could be much bettered. The people were outstanding, the horses were excellent and well looked after (by horsemen who cared), the wildlife and surroundings were fantastic. Collected at the airstrip, no waiting around the jeep was there, sung into the camp, knowledgeable and helpful guides who will push the boundaries a bit (if you can ride well enough for them to be comfortable that you can hack it), outstanding food not just by the standard one might expect in the bush but by any standard (including my birthday cake which the staff very kindly baked when they discovered the day it was), plenty of cold beer and water what more can I say? It is a great place, great staff. My wife and I went at the end of the dry season and there was just an abundance of wild life of every sort and if you are quiet and keep everything tight with the ride then the guides will get you very close. Tents are luxurious. The guides are extremely knowledgeable and humorous, very good company. Bongwe, Sekongo and Gareth all top guys. Katie who runs the place was top class, had everything off pit pat and made sure everything was done well. I wont spoil the surprises by listing the little extras that you will get but believe me no trouble will be too much in terms of making sure you get the best and widest experience, there will be a small army moving stuff and preparing whilst you are out riding. Take the opportunity to sleep on the tree top platform, its an experience you wont forget.
Its Africa, bring plenty of Deet for the mosquitoes, sun cream for the sun and quickly accept that you may eat a few bugs, also do a bit of shopping in Africa if you can and get some proper bush shirts with ventilation and long sleeves. I could go on and on but would only spoil the surprises they team will have in store for you, don't hesitate go for it you wont be sorry. I would in a heartbeat.

This is a very special place, run by wonderful people who really want to make sure that you have an amazing time. If you can ride confidently and love the bush, wild animals and the unparalleled peace, and relaxation of this unique remote place, then look no further! My non-riding spouse also had a wonderful time, again thanks to the people, especially Gareth, who made sure that he had every opportunity to experience the Okavango Delta without having to take to the saddle. Put this on your bucket list, and make sure you tick it off - it's amazing!

Macatoo is a magical tented camp in the Okavango Delta. The accommodation is very comfortable and clean. How they produce the high quality food in this location is beyond my expectation. They even bring lunch (complete with tables, chairs, linen tablecloth and napkins, glasses, crockery, cutlery, and champagne) out into the bush to meet the ride on occasions. We sat to drink and eat by a pool in the river as an elephant came to quench his thirst and bathe before wandering on past us. The horses are superb, responsive and very well looked after (as is the tack). The riding was fairly testing and not for the nervous or inexperienced rider. A novice rider could ruin the experience for the rest of the group as you all need to stay together for safety reasons. Beware of the baboons in the camp getting into your tent and "liberating" your personal belongings - clips are provided to secure the zips on your tent to prevent this. Waking up one morning to find an elephant grazing mere feet away from our verandah was a magical moment. Plenty of game to see and an opportunity to go out in a boat on the river too. The whole holiday was truly amazing.
