Located high on the slopes of the Oloolaimutia Hills, the Maasai Mara Sopa Lodge was one of the first safari lodges to be built in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, a reason why its gardens and trees are so lush and mature. The lodge has 50 guest cottages divided into two wings on either side of the main public areas. Each of these houses has two spacious guest rooms with queen and king-size beds, mosquito nets, electronic safes, dressing tables, en-suite bathrooms, and sheltered verandas that all have views over the gardens and the game reserve beyond.

Masai Mara National Reserve

The Masai Mara is regarded as the jewel of Kenya’s wildlife viewing areas. There have been some 95 species of mammals, amphibians, and reptiles and over 400 bird species recorded on the reserve. Nowhere in Africa is wildlife more abundant and it is for this reason a visitor hardly misses to see the big five. Probably the most famous of the reserves, the Maasai Mara, in Kenya’s southwestern corner, boasts an astonishing amount of game.

Unfenced, the Mara is bounded in the east by the Ngama Hills and in the west by the Oloololo or Siria Escarpment. Gazelle, wildebeest, and zebra graze in large numbers, and where prey is found so are predators. Not only is this a great place in which to find game, but the wide greenly-gold savannahs spotted with thorn trees make it ideal for photography. The Mara, as it is known in Kenya, is ravishingly beautiful and also offers long, undisturbed views and utterly dramatic panoramas.

  • Rich wildlife: Home to the Big Five and over 95 mammal species
  • Great migration: Millions of wildebeests and zebras traverse the plains yearly
  • Scenic landscapes: Rolling savannahs dotted with acacia trees
  • Cultural richness: Authentic experiences with the Maasai community
  • Predator-prey drama: Thrilling wildlife interactions, especially near the Mara River
