This two weeks social care volunteering safari enables volunteers to support orphans and less fortunate children living in children’s homes in Kenya. The safari also enables you to enjoy Kenya heritage by being hosted in a Kenyan home and visiting one of the finest national parks, Maasai Mara National Reserve.
On the first two nights, you will be accommodated at a hotel in Nairobi. From night three until night 11, you will be accommodated in a local homestay, while on the last two nights, you will stay at Mara Springs Tented Camp or an equivalent accommodation.
The volunteer safari starts with a meet and greet at the airport and a transfer to your Nairobi hotel. Before proceeding to your volunteering program, you will receive orientation for two days on the African culture, how to behave, what is expected of you, Kenyan history and geography.
After the orientation, you will be taken to your host family who will host you for the whole duration of volunteering on day three. Day four will be spent bonding with the host family. During your volunteer program you will be accommodated in a pre-selected homestay.
The homestay offers you a lockable room, host parents, two meals a day (breakfast and dinner), mosquito net, and an opportunity to interact with locals and learn how to cook local dishes.
During your volunteering period, you will engage in day to day activities of running the children's home. The orphanage activities include cooking, feeding kids, laundry, assisting them with their homework, administrative work, general grooming, dressing, and soothing them to sleep.
The children home you will be volunteering in can be a walking distance or with minimal commuting from the hosting family.
After breakfast, drive to the Masai Mara National Reserve offering wonderful scenery and plenty of game. It is perhaps the only region left in Kenya where visitors may see animals in the same super-abundance as it existed a century ago. Arrive for lunch at your lodge. Have an afternoon game drive until sunset. Dinner and overnight will be at Mara Springs Tented Camp or an equivalent accommodation.
Early breakfast is followed by an exciting full morning game viewing drive, including a visit to Mara River to view the hippos. There is also an early morning optional balloon ride with champagne-style breakfast available. You will spend the whole day in the Maasai Mara with morning and afternoon game drives. Dinner and overnight will be at Mara Springs Tented Camp or an equivalent accommodation.
After breakfast, drive to Nairobi, Kenya's colorful capital city, arriving at around midday. You will be dropped off at your hotel, airport, or agreed point.
You will be provided with bed and breakfast at the Nairobi hotel, breakfast and dinner at the homestay, and full board while on the Maasai Mara safari. On the last day, you will be offered breakfast.
On day 13, there is also an early morning optional balloon ride with champagne-style breakfast available.
