Arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi (NBO), where you will be met by a Travel Waves Safaris representative. Depending on your arrival time, you shall either be taken to your hotel or start your drive to the Rift Valley, heading to the Lake Nakuru National Park, the first destination of your safari. The park is truly remarkable, boasting of high concentrations of both mammals and birds (over 400 species), such as greater and lesser flamingoes, black and white rhinos, lions, buffalos, and Rothschild giraffes. Check in at camp/hotel for lunch. Go for a game drive in the evening with the possibility of having a walk by the shores of the lake to get up-close with the many birds found here. Return to the camp/hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, followed by a game drive within the park. Depart in the late morning, heading to the nearby Lake Naivasha. Arrive in the afternoon for lunch and a moment of relaxation. In the late afternoon, you can have a boat ride on Lake Naivasha and visit the Crescent Island, where you get to walk in the park to see the animals such as giraffes, zebras, waterbucks, and antelopes. Naivasha is also known for its bird species such as fish eagle. Dinner and overnight stay at the camp/hotel.
Have an early breakfast and start your drive to the renowned Maasai Mara. Arrive at the park and check in for lunch at the lodge/ camp. Enjoy an afternoon game drive to track elephants, leopards, cheetahs, lions, and buffaloes among many other animals. Drive back to the lodge/camp for dinner and overnight stay.
Wake up to the beautiful singing of birds and animal sounds in the Mara as you go on to have your breakfast. Once satisfied, you will head out for a full game drive day, carrying picnic lunch with you. On this day you will navigate through the vast park territory in search of animals in their natural habitat, stopping at the Hippo Pool for a lunch break from the drive and see the hippos bathing, crocodiles basking, and during the migration season, marvel at one of the wonders of the world - the great wildebeest migration. Enjoy a further game drive at the park. Drive back to the lodge/camp for dinner and overnight stay.
Have an early morning pre-breakfast game drive in the park on this day. You will then return for breakfast, which will be followed by departure for Nairobi. Arrive in the city in the afternoon. Drop off at the airport/ hotel.
The Maasai Mara Game Reserve is arguably Kenya’s most popular game sanctuary. It is the most famous and most visited game reserve in Kenya. The film ‘Out of Africa’ was made to a great extent in this reserve. Virtually every type of wildlife can be seen at the Mara. A spectacle worth seeing is the annual migration of millions of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle from Serengeti plains across the Tanzania border and the Mara River to reach Maasai Mara grazing fields from late June. The dramatic crossing of the river and the preying on the migrants by predators can be viewed from early July to August. The reserve abounds with birdlife since dose to about 452 species have been recorded. Hot air balloon safaris are readily available in this park. Accommodation is plentiful in Maasai Mara and ranges from five-star lodges to luxury tented camps and campsites within the reserve.
The park lies in Central Kenya, 140 kilometers north-west of Nairobi, in Nakuru district of the Nakuru county. It is best known for its thousands, sometimes millions of flamingos nesting along the shores. The ecosystem comprises of the lake, surrounded by mainly wooded and bushy grasslands. The park supports a wide ecological diversity with flamingos (greater and lesser) and other water birds being the major attractions of the area. The ecosystem provides for about 56 different species of mammals including the white rhino and buffaloes and a variety of terrestrial birds numbering nearly 450 species.
At Lake Naivasha you can visit the Crescent island where you get to walk in the park to see the animals such as giraffes, zebras, and antelopes. Naivasha is also known for the species of birds.
