Camelthorn Lodge

Situated in one of Hwange National Park's last remaining unspoiled acacia woodland areas, Camelthorn Lodge offers proximity to many small water bath areas that attract smaller and less destructive woodland creatures such as bushbuck, mongoose, squirrels, and an abundance of birdlife. The unique design of the Camelthorn main lodge incorporates a magnificent and ancient camelthorn tree that spans the length of the dining room.

8 luxuriously furnished forest villas keep guests cool in the hot months and warm in cooler months. Each villa offers en-suite bathrooms with a bath and window overlooking the forest, fireplace, ground level deck, upstairs outdoor maisonette with hammock and daybed. Electricity is provided by a generator.

Nehimba Lodge

Deep inside a private concession along the northern part of Hwange National Park, there lies the comfortable Nehimba Lodge. Drive 3 to 4 hours from Victoria Falls to arrive at the remote lodge and its comfortable accommodations. 7 thatched roof tents on wooden platforms offer a great mix of upscale living and adventure for those guests looking to receive a comfortable yet in-depth Zimbabwe safari experience. The main lodge and accommodations look out over a pan which attracts a variety of wildlife including large numbers of elephants particularly in the dry season when they seek water from nearby the lodge.

Zambezi Sands

Zambezi Sands is situated inside Zambezi National Park. Relax in a private splash pool on your deck overlooking the landscape of the Zambezi River and its wildlife. Observe elephants, hippos, bushbucks, and waterbucks along the river banks. Listen for lions call and observe the myriad of bird life that thrives along the water's route.

The tents and main lodge are all built on raised platform with river views and private sun decks. 8 bedouin luxury tents all offer private splash pools on the deck, dotted along the river bank. Each tent offers 2 twin beds, lounge area, mini-bar, private en-suite bathroom, outdoor shower, and electricity provided by a generator.

Day 1: South Hwange National Park

You will arrive at Victoria Falls International Airport (VFA) today and you will be transferred for 4 hours to south Hwange National Park and your first safari camp, Camelthorn Lodge, situated in an indigenous forest on the edge of Ngamo Plains. Considered one of the best game-viewing destinations inside of Hwange National Park, Ngamo Plains attracts a variety of wildlife including wildebeests, buffalos, kudus, waterbucks, and sables.

Predators are also regularly spotted including jackals, lions, and cheetahs. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch outside under the giant camelthorn tree after which the lodge was named before setting out for your first game drive in Hwange National Park this afternoon. Stop at the camp's own underground blind at Stoffie's Pan and enjoy sundowners and canapes as you witness wildlife from a unique perspective. Return to the lodge for a delectable 3-course meal under the starlit sky.

Day 2: Hwange National Park

Wake early this morning to the sounds of the bush before you head out for your first full day of adventure in Hwange National Park. Take part in a pump run, a unique experience if you are visiting in the dry season. Assist your guide with a maintenance of man-made watering holes which have been providing water to the wildlife for years during the dry season. Enjoy a picnic and siesta under the trees at Mfagazaan Pan.

Go on a leisurely game drive the rest of the afternoon from Pan to Pan and freshen up with a shower at the end of the day and a 3-course dinner back at the camp. Note that pump runs are only possible in the dry season, typically June to October. Guests go on a full-day game drive if visiting during other times of the year.

Day 3: Ngamo Village - Acacia forest walk

Wake up this morning to the warmth of your fireplace. Set out today to the nearby Ngamo Village for a school visit and the chance to learn about some of the conservation projects Camelthorn supports in the local community. Return in time for lunch and an afternoon game drive and walk in the Acacia forests near the edge of Ngamo Plains. Stop at a watering hole and watch the sunset as you enjoy snacks. Return to the lodge for dinner before retiring to bed for the evening.

Day 4: Elephant Express Train

Enjoy your last morning at Camelthorn, listening to the singing birds or setting out for an early walk in the area before morning brunch. Next, pack your bags and set out to the Ngamo Siding to catch the Elephant Express, the rail car that offers a slow ride towards Impofu Siding, allowing you to spot game the entire way. Drinks and snacks are served on board during the 2-hour ride.

Disembark and meet your vehicles to drive you for 2 hours to Nehimba Lodge located in the northwest part of Hwange National Park. This lodge was built strategically in front of a watering hole and attracts large herds of elephants and a plethora of other wildlife. Enjoy sundowners and dinner before setting out for an optional night drive to spot species just starting their 'day'.

Day 5: North Hwange National Park

Prepare your daypack for the day and set out to explore northern Hwange National Park which is distinctly different from its southern counterpart in topography, habitat, and species. You will stop first at Nehimba Seep, an ancient source of water and historic watering hole for the San Bushmen.

After that, you will return to the lodge mid-day for lunch and set out again on an afternoon game drive within the park. Finish the adventure with refreshments and canapés at sunset overlooking a famed watering hole. Enjoy dinner and a campfire back at the lodge this evening.

Day 6: Salt Springs - Mandayu Dam

Set out today to visit the area's salt springs and enjoy game viewing along the way. Follow the morning's outing with lunch at the Mandayu Dam situated on a scenic hill and offering great bird watching and game viewing. Return to the lodge in the afternoon and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 7: Zambezi National Park

Enjoy coffee or tea this morning before a 2 to 2.5-hour drive back to Hwange Main Camp where you will connect with the vehicle that will take you for 3 hours to Zambezi Sands camp. Nestled along the shores of the mighty Zambezi River, 1 hour outside of Victoria Falls and inside Zambezi National Park, this location offers a picturesque view and ample game viewing opportunities combined with the accessibility of activities along the water. Find a scenic sunset spot for sundowners to celebrate the first day on your Zimbabwe safari. Dinner is served as a 3-course meal on the open-air deck as you take in the views overlooking the mighty Zambezi River.

Day 8: Canoeing on Siansimba Islands - Game Drive

Early this morning, set out for a paddle in a canoe to explore Siansimba Islands located around the lodge. Enjoy a 'bush brunch' on the river's edge during your excursion before returning to the lodge for a siesta and late lunch. In this afternoon, set out for a game drive, walking safari, spotting wildlife, and taking advantage of photography opportunities. Enjoy a sunset drift on the water this evening before returning to the lodge for dinner.

Day 9: Victoria Falls

Eat an early breakfast today before packing a day pack for your full-day guided tour to Victoria Falls. The "smoke that thunders" remains one of the world's foremost natural spectacles and draws visitors from all over the globe. Have lunch back at the lodge before you set out for a game drive inside Zambezi National Park this afternoon.

"Francois, our guide was excellent. He is very knowledgeable and did everything possible to make sure we experience the best of Namibia. He brought his guitar along on our 2-week trip and often performed and sang for us. His performances touched a lot of people including other guests and staff at various camps / lodges and made our trip memorable."
