Umkhuze Game Reserve lodge

You will be staying here on the first night of the safari.

Kosi Bay lodge

Kosi Bay lodge is perfectly situated for guests who want to base themselves in the heart of this pristine area and further explore the region. Just a few hundred meters from the water’s edge of Lake Nhlange, Kosi Bay lodge offers everything an African bush lodge should and more. The accommodation is rustic more than plush, but the setting and range of activities make a stay well worthwhile. You will be staying here on the second night of the safari.

Sodwana Bay lodge

Sodwana Bay lodge is located on the untouched eastern seaboard, where wide lakes and lagoons shimmer with life. Here you will find stretches of beautiful forest populated with rare and protected animals; this is one of the greatest sections of the South African coastline. The chalets are tastefully decorated and offer privacy as well as incredible views. These picturesque views have you feeling like you can reach out and touch the whales swimming by.

You will be staying here on the third night of the safari.

St. Lucia Wetland Park lodge

You will be staying here on the last night of the safari.

Day 1

You will depart Johannesburg early morning from your place of accommodation and make your way through the lowveld to the uMkhuze Game Reserve. More than 420 species of birds can be found in this 38,500 hectare bird lovers’ paradise! Leopard, black and white rhino, elephant, giraffe, wild dog, cheetah, hyena, and various antelope are also to be seen.

Day 2

Travelling a short distance towards the Indian Ocean, you will arrive at the small town of Kosi Bay. An early check in at the accommodation assures you time enough for an unforgettable snorkeling experience in the crystal clear warm waters and a long awaited sun downer cruise to end off a spectacular day. The Kosi River's mouth is known as "the aquarium" because of the clarity of the water and the abundance of fish species making for a perfect snorkeling experience.

Day 3

You will depart in the morning for a short trip to your next overnight stop over at Sodwana Bay. Sodwana Bay is a jewel located on the east coast of South Africa. The warm waters of the Indian Ocean provide each traveler the thrill of scuba diving, big game fishing, turtle tours, and so much more. You can take a long walk on an unspoiled, protected beach or participate on any of the activities on offer for an additional cost.

Day 4

Another relaxed departure to continue your journey southward towards St. Lucia. The small town of St. Lucia is a hub for the greater St. Lucia Wet land Park. They offer a variety of activities on offer that includes boat cruises, game drives in the Umfolozi or Hluhuwe Game Reserve, whale watching, snorkeling, or take a day off and enjoy this small town at your own pace.

Day 5

The route back to Johannesburg on this day is a fairly long drive. You will bid farewell to Kwa Zulu Natal and head inland back to Johannesburg. Stopping regularly for refreshments, you will arrive late afternoon in Johannesburg.

A sun downer cruise at Kosi River is included in the price.

This safari will take place in Umkhuze Game Reserve, Kosi Bay, Sodwana Bay, and St. Lucia.

    Exciting experience

CONS Cons: We did't know that the lodge was outside the Kruger Park. Probably we have missed this information, but we believed that the lodge was inside. This is not a complaint, but only an advice to show in your information the location of the lodge.

PROS Pros: We like very much the Safari experience, and David availability and competence. Also the Safari guide, Dion, has been very helpful and expert to show us the animals and explain their habits.

Organizer response: Thank you very much for the positive review received, the 4 days together in the Kruger and do indeed look forward to being of assistance again in the future.

    Not bad just too expensive

CONS Cons: The package cost too much. From the US it's hard to tell how much things should cost, so we ended up paying $700 pp for a three day, two night package which was probably twice as much as it should have cost. The accommodations in Johannesburg were spartan to the point of depressing. They cook a mean steak there, but it feels like student housing--rather uninspired student housing. And our transportation to and from Johannesburg was a bit harrowing at times--the driver could have been much more careful. Also, a day and a half in a safari truck is a lot. If I went again, I'd opt for a nature walk somewhere to break it up.

PROS Pros: Accommodations in Kruger were very good--the staff was very friendly and the food was great. The safari itself was generally good, just a bit tiring.

    The Bosetti's Safari vacation

CONS Cons: The lodge was twenty minutes outside the park and it was a very cold ride going in. other than that it was great!

PROS Pros: I loved our guide David. He picked us up and he was always a joy to be around. Extremely friendly and knowable about South Africa. We felt safe with him. He kept us on schedule and very busy during our trip. He took us to places we did not except to go and showed us some of the most beautiful sites. He knew a lot about the animals in Kruger Park and we loved the fact that he joined us on one of our trips. The Kroger Adventure lodge was very nice. The staff was my favorite. They were very accommodating and always friendly. The had a nice breakfast every morning and nice dinner. One night David even cooked for us on the campfire. The entire experience was amazing and a trip of a life time. I want to come back to africa and do more trips as long as David is our Guide.

Organizer response: Hi Kelly Thank you for such an amazing trip to the Kruger. I will of course Guide you through Southern Africa again.

Review by Rob Wishart from Great Britain

    Hazyview unfit for use!

CONS Cons: I was the ONLY guest at Hazyview but still got a room with dodgy wiring, no heating nor hot water. Told staff and got moved to one with heating(still no hot water; no safe here either). Wifi only available at reception area, however staff went home after mealtime and I then had no WiFi. Again, remember that I was the only guest - are we to believe none of the accommodation is fit for use (remembering that these trips are expensive). I saw at least 6 staff - is nobody responsible for the quality of accommodation? (Less importantly? There was no opportunity for a Bush walk as advertised).

PROS Pros: Wildlife abundant and guide very sharp eyed and knowledgeable.

Organizer response: We sincerely apologize on behalf of Adventour for the bad experience at Kruger Adventure Lodge (KAL). We have in the meantime investigated and can provide the below response after talking with the Duty manager on duty for those 2 nights. Please see my feedback below. Please note that the below points are from the lodge itself and not from Adventour. - Aircon/Heater in room 5. In perfect working condition. The plug switch was off. Situated just underneath the unit. Will take responsibility for this as it still should be switched on. - Hot water fine in room 5. Just not boiling. Turned up the thermostat 5 degrees. This will then be boiling. - Hot water fine in room 10. Just takes about 1min to get hot. This was timed. - Wifi. Guest was not asked to leave. He already had had supper and was in his room. The reception closed at 9pm as the Lodge was quiet. He probably came put later and saw that the reception was closed. He would never be asked to leave. On behalf of KAL management and maintenance I would like to apologize for the unsatisfactory stay for your client. These issues have been dealt with.

"Absolutely fantastic experience! I booked last minute as a solo traveler. I was paired with another group of like-minded travelers and an excellent guide/driver. Over our 4 day trip I saw all Big 5 (and 4 of the 5 "Ugly 5") and the staff went out of their way to make the trip perfect. On our last night, the staff heard that we wanted to try an authentic South African dinner so they changed the menu just for us. Great service all around!"

"The first place we stayed was really nice and we loved the staff and Eric and Jeffrey were great guides. The food was also really nice. We liked the fact that it was just the 3 of us. That exclusivity is awesome. We also really enjoyed David and his knowledge about the park, conservation and the animals”"

"What an amazing trip! We were a group of 4 joined by another group of 5 for 2 days of touring through Pilanesberg Game Reserve with Dave (the owner). We couldn't have imagined a better experience! I got amazing views of all the animals and surprisingly the animals were so close to us the whole time. We never struggled to see their beauty, but also were able to watch them in their natural habitat. The camping was fun, great food and braai at a great location where we swam while waiting for the peak animal watching time. Dave was a blast to hang out with and his stories round the campfire were phenomenal. We'll be back to ask about the baboon story soon."

"From start till the end, it did not feel like a tour! Very personalized experience and they go the extra mile be it accomodating our requests or making sure our experience was like no other to ensuring we finish the tour and transition to our next stop safely. Very warm and friendly interactions with an extremely passionate and knowledgeable guide exceeded our expectations and then some!"
