Itinerary

Day 1: Meet and greet / transfer to Kiambi Safari Lodge

The representative will meet you at Lusaka International Airport (LUN) and accompany you on about 2.5 hours to 3 hours road transfer to Kiambi Safari Lodge in the Lower Zambezi Valley, where you will stay for three nights and have an incredible Zambian safari experience.

Check-in and, depending on your arrival time, you’ll be served lunch, followed by a complimentary sunset boat excursion and, in the evening, a delicious dinner will be served with a wonderful view of the Zambezi River and under the stars before retiring to your room at your leisure.

Day 2: Overnight canoe safari - Lower Zambezi

Breakfast is served at 07:30, followed by a briefing from your canoeing guide on the canoeing excursion, dangerous animals, safety precautions on the river and in the campsites, and canoeing methods.

The trip begins at the jetty and continues down the river. A tea stop is made, which is organized by the backup boat. Following that, you’ll pause for lunch, which will be provided by the backup boat. After lunch, you proceed downriver.

The backup boat goes ahead to the location to set up camp. You arrive at Buffalo Beans Campsite, which is located on an island, in the late afternoon. Tents, bedrolls, washrooms, a drop toilet, and a bucket shower facility will all be set up when you arrive. Dinner, as well as fresh drinking water and juice, is always provided.

Day 3: Lower Zambezi National Park game drive safari

Today you will have a mini-breakfast, early tea/coffee, and snacks before being picked up by a motorboat from the lodge with a lunch (packed). An early morning adventure cruise to the Chongwe Conference, where you will find a 4×4 open-sided safari car.

You will pay park entrance fees here and then board the vehicle, where your guide will give you a briefing. You will enjoy game viewing in this great park, and then your guide will pause for breakfast before continuing your game viewing until around 1 p.m. when you will have lunch in the bush. Relax for a while before continuing till around 3 p.m., when you’ll return to the Chongwe Confluences and board the boat for 1.5 hours. Returning to the lodge shortly before nightfall is a great way to end the day.

You will then return to your room to freshen up and relax for a little before diner time served on a breathtaking Riverview of wide blue sky and stars. You are free to enjoy some cold beverages from the bar after dinner then at bedtime at your leisure.

Day 4: Road transfer to Lusaka Internation Airport

After breakfast, you will check out of the lodge and the driver will take you on an about 2.5-hour to 3-hour road transfer to Lusaka International Airport, depending on your departure timing out of Lusaka or onward plans.

Location

This safari will take place in Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia.

Lower Zambezi National Park

This park is still relatively undeveloped, its beauty lies in its wilderness state. The diversity of animals is not as wide as the other big parks, but the opportunities to get close to game wandering in and out of the Zambezi channels are spectacular. The park lies opposite the famous Mana Pools Reserve in Zimbabwe, so the whole area on both sides of the Zambezi River is a massive wildlife sanctuary.

The River’s edge is overhung with a thick riverine fringe, including ebony and fig trees. Further inland is a floodplain fringed with mopane forest and interspersed with winterthorn trees and huge acacias. The hills which form the backdrop to the park are covered in broadleaf.

Even though the Lower Zambezi National Park covers an area of 4092 square kilometers, most of the game is concentrated along the valley floor. There is an escarpment along the northern end which acts as a physical barrier to most of the park’s animal species. Enormous herds of elephant, some up to 100 strong, are often seen at the river’s edge. ‘Island hopping’ buffalo and waterbuck are common. The park also hosts good populations of lion and leopard, and listen too for the ubiquitous cry of the fish eagle.

Zambia

Zambia is a big country as large as France, Switzerland, Austria, and Hungary combined, covering some 750,000 square kilometers and lying in the tropical belt on South Central Africa, 10 to 18 degrees south of the equator.

Being on a high plateau, averaging 1,300 meters above sea level, the climate is very temperate with little humidity. The country is landlocked but has many, lakes and rivers with beaches and water sports to be enjoyed in uncrowned and uncluttered surroundings.

Indeed the unspoiled nature of Zambia is perhaps its greatest tourist asset. Rich in scenery and wildlife, Zambia today has become the tourist heart of a great continent which offers something that is becoming progressively rare in this shrinking world, the chance to escape from holiday masses and sour something of an environment that has remained unchanged since the very beginning of time.
