I grew up in Uganda and returned to work there for a while after university in the UK. My wife had visited several African countries, but not Uganda and so, now retired, we decided to take a tour to visit game parks as well as my old haunts. We approached several Ugandan tour operators and 1000 Shades immediately stood out as flexible and understanding our specifuc needs, Our tour was just wonderful, successful in every way. We found my old houses in Kampala, Masindi, Fort Portal and Mbale plus, after an interesting search, my grandmother's grave in Masindi (headstone still extant from 1952!). The game parks - especially Kidepo - were terrific, plus the chimpanzee tracking, Lake Bunyonyi and Mbale/Sipi also.
We got personalized service from the President of 1000 Shades - with serendipity, we had actually met him here in Montreal before we travelled. And our "driver" was a gem. He was just great, an extremely knowledgeable guide as well as a fine driver. We were able to discuss with him social and related issues about Uganda as well as learn about birds, mammals and vegetation. He was also very flexible in attending to our particular interests.
We recommend 1000 Shades without hesitation. And Uganda warrants much higher rating and publicity on the African (and world) tourism agenda.
